Last year my eighth graders took Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" apart. The students each took several of the events or people in the song. They used photo manipulation to place themselves in a photo of the event and them we timed the slide show of all of their photos to the song. Each student also made a short report to go with the photo and we made signs of each event to make a timeline in the hall.
Wow! Randy, This must have been a terrific project. It sounds like a really enriching project to integrate different curriculum based subjects, and technologies in a meaningful way. That song has so many historical references it must have produced a valuable piece of creativity. What a great way for students to find interest in historical events, language arts, sociology, and artistic creativity. Very diversified and meaningful. I always knew you were a great teacher. A Funtastic* Idea. If you have pics posted somewhere I would love to see the students' creative results.
^Funtastic is not a "legitimate" word ,but I am using it in hope to make it a word. It has so much more dynamic than "fantastic and/or fun" I have been using it for years and it seems to be understood by the masses. Feel free to be Funtastic yourself.
